The main kitchen still looks to be in decent shape. It should be, since it was the last building to be renovated. But the roof always makes an unsettling noise as air pressure causes it to ever so slightly rise and fall. (From The Pines Hotel 2005) Taken 2005-10-16 15:05:00 Posted 2007-06-27 18:34:39 by peter |

The 4th floor of the Ritz displayed exceptionally bad fire damage, that I believe have happened in the late 70s or early 80s. This building burned completely recently due to arson. (From The Pines Hotel 2005) Taken 2005-10-16 14:53:35 Posted 2007-12-02 19:44:27 by peter |

The fourth floor of the Ritz showed an exceptional amount of physical damage. Some damage was due to fire, however, it is unclear how this damage to the ceiling and wall were caused, as they appear to have not been affected by fire. A flooded sub-basement under the indoor pool. This is wrong at so many levels. Water inside a building? That's bad. Exposed wiring? Also pretty bad. Flooding so bad it fills the entire sub-basement? Even worse. But all those chemical barrels that have burst, filled with sodium hypochlorite, are probably accelerating the rusting of all the machinery. Not to mention destroying any life forms trying to take hold in that water. This is in need of serious environmental remediation. Phone booth bank near the Persian room. This phone booth is where my fascination with telephones began around third grade. Some older kids were hanging around the booth, the phone ringing inside. Answer it, they said. I answered the phone and a continuous tone was all that was there. They did something and made it ring again, then told me to answer it again. It was a tone again! I begged them to tell me how to do that, and they did. The ringback number for hardlines in the 845 area code (formerly 914 in the Pines' heyday) was to dial 660, plus the last 4 digits of the phone number; when you hear the 'dial tone', hang up for a moment or hit your phone's flash button. You will hear a tone, then hang up. Your phone will ring. The tone will be on the other end. Also, when you hear the dial tone, you can perform a keypad test by dialing all 12 keys on your telephone keypad (0 through 9, * and #). You will hear the tone beep twice if your keypad is working. The more you know! (From The Pines Hotel 2004) Taken 2004-07-18 15:22:22 Posted 2007-12-02 19:40:51 by peter |
